Dear parents,
I am looking for some foam insulation for pipes as pictured above. If anyone has any to donate, that would be wonderful! We need approximately 15 pieces that are about 2 meters long. Thank you!

Dear parents,
We completed our Terry Fox run today. The students ran hard and pushed themselves to do as many laps as possible. Look for TWAS letters in your students backpacks today. These should be in their yellow poetry duotangs. Please send the duotangs back to school Monday! Library day is Monday. Please return all books. I will send out Raz kids cards Monday. It was a little busy today:) Please return forms for the Reader Rock Garden field trip if you have not done so yet. Dear parents,
We had an amazing day yesterday at Telus Spark. The pictures about show some projects from our chain reactions workshop. The creations were amazing and the students were inspired by all the supplies available to them. We also participated in a scratch lab coding workshop. This is something I am hoping we can continue to explore in class. Thank you to the volunteers who made this day possible. Student photos were sent home today. You can either order online or submit orders through the school. Please continue to send in forms for Reader Rock Garden. We will be going on Tuesday October 3rd. The students will continue to work on their marble labyrinths in class this week and next. Look for Raz-kids sign in cards to be coming home Friday. This is an online home reading program. Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is our first field trip of the year! We talked about some expectations in class today. Please ensure your child has a lunch with 2 snacks and water for tomorrow. They should wear suitable footwear and clothing for a day of activity. Today there were some new field trip forms sent home for you to sign. This is for our trip next week to Reader Rock Garden. Please have then signed and returned by Friday. Monday is our library day. If your child returned their books, they were able to take 2 books out today. Please have all books back by next Monday. We will be participating in the Terry Fox run on Friday. The students are invited to bring in "Toonies for Terry" this week. Parents are welcome to join us Friday at 11:00 to run for Terry! We started our Design Challenge today! Ask your student about their ideas for a marble labyrinth. We talked about the criteria for making their labyrinth an easy, medium or hard challenge. Dear Parents,
On Thursday we met our Kindergarten buddies! We will be meeting with our buddies throughout the year to read and share our learning! Our Library day this year will be on Mondays. Please return all library books before Monday. We need relatively clean pizza boxes for a design challenge we are going to do next week. Please send them in if you have any. We still need volunteers for the October 3rd trip to Reader Rock garden. This is coming up, quickly. Please let me know if you are available. Continue to send in your child's forms for the Telus Spark trip on September 26. Dear Parents,
We have had a busy couple of days in room 5. We finished off our seashell inquiry with using observations and classifying other marine life. We used another dichotomous key to help us name the creatures. We also learned about making "inferences". You can see if your child remembers what that means. Having the sunflowers in our class has inspired us to do an artist study on Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at his painting of Sunflowers and read a book about his life. We also started an art project doing our own interpretation on the sunflowers painting. The students had a lot of wonders about Vincent and his painting style. Fun lunch is on Thursday this week! Field trip forms went home today for our Telus Spark trip. Please sign and return them as soon as possible. There is no school on Friday for students. Thank you to the 2 parents who have volunteered for October 3 at Reader Rock Garden. We need 2 more to make this trip possible. Please let me know if you are available and have your security clearance. Dear parents,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! The students should have brought their TWAS/poem duotangs home on Friday to share with you. These should be returned to school on Mondays. This week we will continue to do some sunflower investigation and also incorporate an art project into our sunflower inquiry. We will be learning about what happens to our brain when we look at art and work on art. Scholastic orders were sent home on Friday. If you would like to place an order, please have them in by Sept. 25. Scholastic takes CHEQUE only or you can pay online by credit card. We now have enough volunteers for our September 26th trip to Telus Spark. Thank you to those who have volunteered! I am still in need of 2 more volunteers for our October 3rd visit to Reader Rock garden. Please email me at [email protected] if you are available. Also, our class will be working on a design challenge in the next couple of weeks. If you can send in clean pizza boxes, that would be great! Hi parents,
The students really enjoyed the BeakerHead presentation at RT Alderman this morning! It was a performance that combined circus acts such as juggling and dance with science and math concepts. It was fantastic! During our seashell inquiry today we identified certain shells according to their characteristics using a dichotomous key ( your children should be able to tell you what that big word means). Please continue to let me know if you are available for our September 26th field trip. And thank you to those who have already contacted me. We have another field study to Reader Rock Garden on October 3. That is also coming up quickly. Please contact me at [email protected] if you can join us. Early dismissal tomorrow at 1:20. Dear parents,
We are continuing our seashell research today. Today we learned that seashells can be classified into two groups, bivalve and univalve. Your children should be able to tell you the difference. The creatures that live inside these shells are called mollusks...ask your child if the mollusks make their own shells. We are working on place value in Math. Tomorrow we have a walking field trip to RT Alderman school for the Beayerhead presentation. We are also are sketching and observing the sunflowers we have in our room. The students have a lot of wonders, such as... How did they grow so big? How many seeds do they have? Why is the stem fuzzy? Why are the leaves fuzzy? Hopefull we will find the answers to their questions! Dear parents,
Yesterday we starting our inquiry into seashells. We did some quantitative and qualitative observations ( you can ask you child what that means!). We weighed, measure and thought of some questions about the shell they were observing. We learned the creatures that lived inside our shells are called mollusks. If you are available for our Sept. 26 field trip please contact the office. Also, if you are free to help in the classroom, please email me at [email protected] We have been talking a lot about having a growth mindset. Ask your child how they can work on that! |
