New field trip forms went home today for our March 6th trip to Bow Habitat station. Please sign and return the forms by this Thursday March 1st. Fun snack is on Friday! We have our field study to Fish Creek this Friday March 2 ( we will be back for fun snack). Please ensure your child is dressed for outside activities. You child has new words for this week. We will have our quiz on Thursday this week. Here are the words they should practice: vertebrate mammal reptile would could special inference dissect classify habitat Today we dissected our owl pellets. It was pretty fascinating to see what the students discovered. Some pellets had multiple skulls. We will continue with classifying the bones tomorrow and deciphering what animal they come from! Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day. Our conversation and actions on this day will be focused what we can do to show kindness and have our students become aware of positive things they can do to make our school a better place. Library books came home today.

We have a busy upcoming few week in room 5. On Monday we sent out forms for the upcoming field study to Fish Creek Park on March 2. Please have those forms back by tomorrow. On Monday we will send out new forms for our field study on March 6th. Yesterday we had a special visitor to the classroom. Ophelia, the great horned owl. This was a live owl brought in by an animal rehabilitation center. The children were fascinated and we learned so much about owls! We have been learning to classify animals into different categories. You can ask your child what a vertebrate and invertebrate are and some sub-categories within those groups. Tomorrow we have our spelling quiz and a math quiz. I hope you had a great long weekend! The students received new spelling words today. They will be tested on these words on Friday: -there -their -they're -Febraury -research -animal -India -Peru -Ukraine -Tunisia Please remember to also have your child practice their multiplication facts as we will have a short quiz for that on Friday. We have some upcoming field studies in March. We are going to Fish Creek with our photographer, Mr. W on March 2nd. We are also going to Bow Habitat Station on March 6th. There is no school this Thursday and Friday due to the Calgary Teacher's Convention. Also Monday is Family Day and all staff and students are off. There will be no spelling words this week as it is a short one. But we will resume with our weekly spelling words on Tuesday February 20th. Please remember on Wednesday we will be having a small Valentine exchange. Your child should have a list of names in their backpacks. Please have your child continue to practice their multiplication facts. There will be another quiz next Friday February 23rd. This Wednesday February 14th we will be having a presentation from Kananaskis in the Classroom. What a snowy day! We successfully make it to swimming and the students had fun today trying the slides at the pool.
Please remind your students to review their spelling words for tomorrows quiz and to go over their multiplication facts. Tomorrow the grade 4's will go on a walking field trip to RT Alderman for a performance. We will be having a small Valentine's celebration next Wednesday. The children are welcome to bring Valentines for each member of the class. A list of names will be in their back packs on Friday. We did ozobots today and the students have been trying to get their ozobot to travel from one corner of a paper to and opposing corner using different angles. They should know the difference between a right, obtuse and acute angle. We are starting our bridge presentations. So far we have hear from the arch, truss and suspension bridge groups. Dear parents,
We had a successful first day of swimming and arrived at the pool on time, despite the snow! Please make sure you pack your child's swim gear in a bag for easy transport. Today a letter was sent home regarding our upcoming field studies. You are now able to pay the fees for this portion of the year on your My CBE Account online. We have new spelling words for this week. I admire the dedication the students had for practicing last week. Please make sure when they practice writing the words, they do not use upper case letters. Next week we start our swimming program. We leave right away in the morning each day so please have your child arrive at school on time. They will need their swim suit, towel and extra snacks. This week in writing we learned how to write a Haiku. You can ask your child how to write them and what a syllable is. The students had their spelling test today and most did very well. I could tell they all practiced this week. They have their tests in their backpacks. Please make sure they have their yellow duotang at school Monday for 10 more new words. Next Friday the students will have a multiplication quiz. I sent home a multiplication chart earlier this week that they can use to practice. The grade 3's should know all the times tables up to 5x5 and the grade 4's should know up to 9x9. They should have quick recall and the facts should be memorized. |
