Dear parents,
We are looking forward to our upcoming Gala on Thursday night! The event will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday March 22. Room 5 will be performing in the gym at 7:50. They must be in the classroom by 7:30 to prepare. You will have from 6:00 until 7:30 to come and view your students photographs which will be placed in the hallways and in the art room. If you have no other students at Maple Ridge school, I have recommended to the students that they arrive at 7:00 and give themselves 30 mins to view the displays. Please email me if you have any questions! We are been learning some new terms in room 5. Ask your students about how to classify animals using the terms "producer, consumer, carnivore, herbivore, omnivore". There will be no spelling words this week. We will resume our spelling program after Spring Break.

Dear Parents,
What a beautiful day! The snow is slowly starting to melt and creating a very slushy playground. If possible, please send extra socks and pants and have your child wear rubber boots if they are ones that enjoy puddles. We have new spelling words for this week. They are: alevin nymph fry Subnivean evidence science our skeleton owl graph We are starting some data collection in math. We composed a survey question and we are starting to collect the results. Ask your child what their survey question was. We had library today. Dear parents,
We had an excellent day on Tuesday at Bow Habitat Station. Thank you so much to the volunteers who made this trip possible! The students learned all about each stage of the life cycle of the rainbow trout. We also learned about animal adaptations and used microscopes to examine some insects. They have an amazing facility that is open to the pubic if you ever want to go on a family visit. Please save the date for our upcoming Spring Gala. This will be held March 22 from 6:00-8:00pm. This evening will showcase the work we have done with our Artist- in Residence and our music program at Maple Ridge school. Today we continued to work with the bones we excavated from our owl pellets. The students are recreating the skeleton of that creature. It is very intricate work and I am impressed with the patience and control they have been demonstrating throughout the process. In class we are now reading the book "Poppy". It fits perfectly with our Owl inquiry and animal life cycles unit, plus its a wonderful story. Ask your child what has happened so far! There will be a spelling test tomorrow morning. Please review their words tonight! PS. We are still taking donations for our classroom Treasure Box. The students are very motivated by this system and enjoy counting their beads and exchanging them for tickets to the treasure box draw! Dear parents,
Room 5 is looking forward to our field trip to Bow Habitat Station tomorrow. This is an indoor field trip. Please have the students pack a healthy lunch with 2 snacks and a water bottle. We will be away from the school from approximately 9:00 until 2:30 pm. This field trip is to supplement our unit on Animal Life cycles. We learned some new vocabulary today in preparation for our day tomorrow. Ask your children about the following terms: -alevin -fry -yolk-sac -nymph -adult -redd The students received new spelling words today. Please have your child practice the following words for the quiz on Friday: -adult -adaptation -reproduce -preen -predator -should -knew -new -know -now Some words are content specific and some are words I have noticed the students typically spell wrong. We worked today with our pictures we took on our field trip to Fish Creek on Friday. Thank you so much to the volunteers who joined us on this snowy, beautiful morning. It was truly an experience to remember! And just like that...it's March!! Where is the time going?
Please remember our field trip tomorrow to Fish Creek. The weather will be colder and snowy. The students will be outside for almost 2 hours so they much be dressed appropriately. Snow pants, boots, mitts, a hat and warm coat are required. They will be allowed to take 1 or 2 snacks that fit in their pocket. Today we talked about what a subnivean zone is. You can ask your child to explain what it is and who hides there. We will have our spelling test tomorrow if there is time after our field trip. It is fun snack tomorrow. We will be back at approximately 11:45, and we will have our snack upon returning to Maple Ridge. |
