Dear parents,
Tomorrow we will be having our grade 4 farewell assembly at 11:00 and afternoon activities to follow. We would ask that guests in that assembly be limited to family of our grade 4 students. With limited seating we are unable to accommodate more people and we want to ensure seating if available for families of our grade 4 students. Following the assembly, the grade 4's will be walking to Carburn park for a pizza picnic lunch and a scavenger hunt. The students can bring a change of clothes for the walk and scavenger hunt if they want to wear something more formal to the assembly. The grade 4's will need to bring a water bottle. The grade 3's will be doing activities at the school with other supervising teachers.

Dear parents,
In room 5 this week we have been making posters to inform others of the importance of worms! On this poster the students had to complete a detailed, labelled diagram, list 4 adaptations, one fun fact about worms and 2 ways worms help the earth. They could also do a rap or poem for bonus points. Ask your child what they included in their poster. Please return all library books and any classroom books your child may have at home in preparation for the end of the year. For grade 4 students, we will be having our grade 4 farewell on Tuesday, June 26th. Weather permitting, we will walk with the Grade 4's to Carburn Park for pizza and a scavenger hunt. Grade 3's will be doing activities back at the school. This week in math, we have been working on division. The students have all been very motivated to attempt long division problems. Please have your child work on their multiplication facts in order to make the division process quicker and easier! We are having the talent show, this afternoon (Thursday) at 1:30 and Friday June 22 at 12:00. You should have received a notice to inform you if your child is performing. The last day of school is Wednesday, June 27th. The students will be dismissed at 1:20. Dear parents,
Active living day is scheduled for tomorrow, weather permitting. Please have your child wear clothes they can be active in and a water bottle. Let's hope the rain stays away!! Dear parents,
It is a busy time at Maple Ridge school! We have been busy learning about how worms help the earth. Last week we did an experiment to see if worms like light or dark environments. Ask your child how they tested this question. We also learned about the body parts of the worm and what kind of food it likes best. Some of our worms are very acrobatic! Weather permitting, this Friday is Active Living Day. We are incorporating a STEM theme into this year's event. This is our last week to visit the library at school. ALL BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED FRIDAY JUNE 15th. We also have been learning about how to make our writing more interesting by using figurative language. We have learned about alliteration, personification, simile and metaphor. Dear parent,
Just a quick update that tomorrow, Friday, June 8th is Pajama Day for room 5! Students are allowed to wear pajamas and bring a reasonably sized stuffy. Please remember it will be a warm day. Cooler materials are preferred. Dear parents,
Our Heart to Heart Market was a success!! The students did amazing and our class alone raised $163.25 alone, for the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. Thanks to all the parents who supported this event! Our class has been working hard to earn points this earn. They have been trying to stay on task, focus on their work, cooperate with others and be respectful. I am proud to say they have earned themselves a reward of their choice. And the vote was to have a pajama and stuffy day. This will be held on June 8th. Today we did some Social Studies. We learned about the natural regions in India, Tunisia, Peru and Ukraine. We learned that a region has different climate and landscapes. We also learned about the term "monsoon" and "landslide" and "steppe" We are postponing our spelling test until Monday June 4th. We have our last field trip of the year on Tuesday June 5th to Telus Spark. Dear parents,
We had an amazing trip to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area last week. Thanks to all the volunteers who joined us and made this trip possible. The new spelling words this week are: vermicompost conservation bedding decomposer wiggle The students were to pick five more words of their own choice that they need to practice. Last Friday we made our own vermicompost bins in preparation for the red wigglers we will be getting in our class! Ask your children how we made it. The students can start bringing in their quarters this week for the upcoming heart to heart market on Thursday. Parents are welcome to join us Thursday afternoon from 1:30-2:45 for the market. We have our last field study to Telus Spark on June 5th. Forms are due this week. Thanks! Dear parents,

Here is some information about our upcoming Heart to Heart Market: May 16th , 2018 Bring your quarters! At Maple Ridge School we believe that developing citizenship through helping others is part of who we are. If you are new to our school, the Heart to Heart Market is a way for kids to think on a more global level and find ways that they can contribute to others in the world. This year the Market will be held May 31st from 1:30-3:00. Students in grade 3 and 4 run the Market and vote on a cause they would like to give the money they make. Last year, it was The Calgary Food Bank This year, we have decided to give all money raised to the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. Each year the Grade 3 and 4 students create crafts such as bracelets, bookmarks, art cards, etc. that they can sell at the market. Some students have chosen to make other arcade type games that students or parents can play. A few days before the Market, Grade 3 and 4 teachers will distribute “Tickets” to each of the Homeroom classes. Any student who brings in money for the Market will be able to get 1 ticket for each 25c they bring in up to a maximum of 20 tickets. Students will get to go ‘shopping’ at the Marketplace on May 31st. (If you are unable to donate this year, each student will still get 4 tickets. We still want each student to experience the excitement of the Market. ) On the day of the Market, the grade 3s and 4s will be setting out a table or an activity where items may be purchased or played in increments of 1-3 tickets (any donation will be accepted). Students will get to go ‘shopping’ at the Marketplace using their tickets- with ALL proceeds going towards Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. Parents and family are invited to come on the day of the Market to purchase tickets to buy items or play games and just experience the energy and excitement the students have for this cause. Start saving your quarters! They all add up. We look forward to being able to send our love and support…from our hearts to theirs. Maple Ridge students have an opportunity to really make a difference! Hope to see you all there. Sincerely, All the Maple Ridge students and teachers of Grade 3 and 4 Please remember it is fun lunch tomorrow! Dear parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! Your children have homework tonight They are coming home with a sheet for you to fill out with them. The students are acting as landscape architects and they need a client to design a backyard for. This is to support our learning on the concept of area. Last week we did a survey on metimeter.com. I wanted to get the student's responses regarding the subject of Waste in our World. Today we looked at some of the responses and categorized them into groups. A lot of the students are interested in composting! The volunteer tea is tomorrow from 10:30-11:30. If you have helped out this year, please join us! Fun lunch is on Thursday. There is no school Friday this week and Monday next week. |
