We had a great day back form our long weekend.
We spoke extensively this morning about our trip to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area (AASCCA). With the guidelines provided by AASCCA- they have a few suggestions to make our day better: The weather is going to be hot so... wear sunscreen!! wear a hat!!- even if it messes your hair! bring water to drink (I don't know if we will have access to water on the trail) We will be walking a lot so.... wear PROPER SHOES- NOT sandals, or crocs There is potential for allergies to kick in so.... bring allergy medication or take it before you come to school if you need a puffer it should be in your backpack There have been a few occasions of ticks so.... wear bug repellent with DEET or wear pants stay only on the path tie up long hair

Tomorrow is the Volunteer Tea. It starts at 10:30.
There are still some field trip forms that have not come in yet. Please sign and return as soon as possible. Fun Lunch On Thursday. No School on Friday. Today we looked at the map of Peru and took notes on the climate and landforms. We made connections as to how the people use the land and water there. For example, in Peru there are 3 regions: the Coastal Region, The Mountain Region and the Rainforest Region. If I wanted to be a fisherman, it would make more sense to live in the Coastal Region near the Pacific Ocean than in the Mountain Region. We wanted to see if there was evidence of the people caring for the environment. We found out that in the Rainforest Region, they plant new trees every year. zPlease look for TWAS in backpacks today.
Please return field trip forms for Ann and Sandy Cross as soon as possible. Again, if you are free to volunteer on this day (Thursday, May 24)we would love to have you come along. We had a Jump Rope for Heart Presentation this morning. Students are asked to ask family and friends to help fundraise for this cause. There is an envelop to go home with each student, (which was supposed to go home today)- but you can go to the website: jumpropeforheart.ca to begin fundraising- you can do this online. There are prizes awarded. All the information is on the website. Students/parents are encouraged to do this on line. I will send the envelopes home on Monday. The funds collected for Jump Rope need to be submitted by May 30th. We had a busy day today finishing up a special project.
Our hearts were full this afternoon as were put our best feet forward to make and create items to sell and play at our market on the 31st of May. Students worked like busy beavers to meet their "quotas". Please return field trip forms if you have not done so already. we have one volunteer for the 24th of MAy when we go to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area. If you are free for that day we would love to have you come along with us. Lacrosse has been fun this week. Students are getting good exercise and have really improved their skills since the beginning of the week.
Thanks to parents who sent in field trip forms so promptly. Please send in as soon as possible. Field trip forms went home today for May 24th. We will be going to Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation area to talk about the Web of Life. It
will tie into animal life cycles as well as Waste and Our World. Today we had windy Lacrosse outside with the instructors. Levi is one of the instructors. He started playing when he was 11 years old. He loved it so much he kept practicing and improving his skills. Now he is playing lacrosse for a college team and he is on scholarship!! Levi also said that there are many opportunities for both girls and boys in the field of lacrosse if anyone was interested. We talked about fractions today in math. anytime you are cooking or baking, it is a good time to bring up fractions!! A perfect real life application of what we are learning in class. We are working hard on Heart to Heart. Keep the afternoon of May31st open for the big event so you can come and join us. Students had a substitute teacher this morning. Some did not finish their math and they have taken it home for homework. Please finish tonight and return tomorrow. It is area and perimeter. The grade 3s only need to do perimeter.
We started Lacrosse today. if your forms were in studnets participated. Please bring your form tomorrow if you did not bring it in today. We will be going on a field trip on May 24. This to the Anne and Sandy Cross Conservation area and we will be needing volunteers to come along. Forms will go home tomorrow. We had a very busy day getting ready for Ms. Langlois to come and teach us how to use i-movie to make a documentary for our animal research. Today we learned how to put the pictures into i-movie, use transitions and how to record our voices. We found out that the microphones on the ipads are very sensitive!! We had to be very creative about how and where we chose to record our voices. Some students finished all the steps. Others are still writing scripts, or recording. We will share next week.
Tomorrow we will have a Global Design Challenge. Every student will have a chance to make a paper airplane and fly it in the gym to see who can make one that flies the furthest. We are so very excited about Heart to Heart Market!! Students are busy beavers coming up with creative ideas that connect to our curriculum. We could use the following donations if you have any: More yarn mini glue sticks ribbon elastcs or connectors for friendship bracelets Today we wrote our scripts for our documentaries. We watched a national geographic documentary and tired to model how to speak like the real documentary. We practiced with a friend and gave each other feedback.
Today we learned about area and perimeter in math. We found out that perimeter is measurement of the distance around the outside of an object. Area is a way to measure the surface that an object covers. Both can be measured in standard (cm, m, km) and non-standard units ( your hands, a football), but Area is always given in square units. Thank you parents for your support with our Heart to Heart activities. The yarn that you sent in was very useful. IF YOU ARE MAKING THINGS AT HOME PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE A STAFF MEMBER SEVERELY ALLERGIC TO LATEX. WE ARE ASKING THAT YOU CHECK MATERIALS OF SUPPLIES YOU MIGHT BE USING BEFORE SENDING ANYTHING INTO THE SCHOOL. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. Tomorrow is Hats On For Mental Health. Students may wear a hat for the day to show support. |
